MU track, softball, tennis, baseball teams hit the road
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marshall University women’s track and field will compete Friday and Saturday in the Conference USA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Thundering Herd is led by sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell, a graduate of Huntington High School.
Mitchell has run a school-record 8.38 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and is the favorite for a C-USA title after earning league second-team honors last year. The next-best time by a C-USA hurdler in the 60 meters this season is 8.53 by Victoria Rausch of UTSA.
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Marshall’s softball team plays twice Friday as part of a five-game schedule in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Invite at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
The Herd (1-3) is scheduled to take on Oakland (0-0) at 1:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a game with USF (4-3) at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Marshall takes on Missouri (2-3) at 12:30 p.m. and Massachusetts-Lowell (0-0) at 5:30 p.m. The Herd finishes the event at 9 a.m. Sunday vs. 10th-ranked Tennessee (6-0).
HUNTINGTON — Marshall (0-6) seeks its first win of the season during a two-match weekend swing to Louisville (8-1) and Miami-Ohio (2-5).
The Herd takes on the Cardinals at 3 p.m. Friday at the Bass-Rudd Center in Louisville, then plays the RedHawks at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Marshall baseball opens the season with a with a three-game series against Florida A&M, starting at 4 p.m. Friday. The Herd and Rattlers also have games scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
