BASKETBALL: Unity girls roll to open region tournament

Entering as the No. 1 seed in the region tournament has its perks, and the Unity Christian girls’ basketball team took advantage of that Thursday.

Beginning the GICAA Division 1-A North tournament at Shiloh Hills Christian School in Kennesaw, the Lady Lions rolled to a 57-4 win over Horizon Christian in the opening round.

The victory continues a positive season for Unity, has been one of the top teams in its division.

Lindsay Hoyt led the Lady Lions with 19 points and five steals on Thursday, followed by Mikala Whitehead, who added 10 points. Amelia Hoyt contributed seven points, while Alli Hardwell scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds.


Unity (14-2) will try to capture its fourth straight 1-A North title when it plays Killian Hill Christian today at 5:30 p.m. in Kennesaw.
