A dominant performance by Sarah Eckerson, coupled by quick starts in both halves propelled the Sacred Heart Greenwich basketball team to a 65-47 win over host Rye Country Day School in an FAA game held on Monday.

Eckerson, a senior center, was a force on both ends of the court, tallying a career-high 28 points, to go along with 16 rebounds. She also had four steals in the winning effort.

“Sarah Eckerson was absolutely unstoppable,” Sacred Heart coach Ayo Hart said. “They double and triple teamed her.”

That didn’t stop Eckerson from powering the Tigers, who pulled away from Rye Country Day in the second half.

“We got off to a great start and led by as much as 10, before some great execution by RCDS allowed them to pull to within five by halftime,” Hart said. “However, we got off to the same fabulous start in the second half and never looked back.”

Junior guard Leah Atkins led the Tigers’ backcourt. Atkins registered 13 points, six assists and five steals for Sacred Heart. Alanna Jones led the Wildcats with 12 points, while teammate Katie LeFever added 11 points.

With the win, Sacred Heart improved its record to 16-4. The Tigers will celebrate their Senior Day on Wednesday against visiting Masters School in their regular-season finale. They will then compete in the FAA Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
