Rock Star Sting To Miss Mother’s Funeral

LONDON (AP) _ Rock star Sting will be recording on the Caribbean island of Montserrat when his mother is buried in northeast England on Thursday, his publicist said Wednesday.

Keith Altham said the 36-year-old singer and actor was ″naturally very upset″ over the death of his mother, Audrey Sumner, but he would not say why he was missing the funeral.

Mrs. Sumner, 56, died of cancer at her home in Tyne and Wear earlier this week.

Sting’s real name is Gordon Sumner.
