Lady O set to play Waverly in district final
Volleyball district pairings are officially set and Beatrice will be traveling to Waverly on Saturday.
The Lady O has earned the No. 12 seed in the 16-team Class B field. They will play at fifth-seeded Waverly at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The winner will advance to the NSAA State Tournament next weekend.
Beatrice fell to Seward in the subdistrict semifinals on Tuesday, but their standing in the power point rankings allowed them to advance to the district final.
Beatrice goes into the game with a 16-12 record while Waverly comes in with a 25-7 record. The two teams have not competed against each other this season.
Norris will also play in a district final despite losing to Seward in Tuesday’s subdistrict championship game. They’ve earned the No. 7 seed in Class B, so they will host 10th-seeded Hastings at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The winner of that will advance to the Class B State Tournament.
Three other Sunland teams reached district championship matches on Saturday.
In Class C2, Freeman earned the No. 10 seed and they will play seventh-seeded Doniphan-Trumbull. That game will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will be hosted by Cross County High School. The winner of that will advance to state.
In Class D1, Diller-Odell has earned the No. 6 seed and they will play 11th-seeded Hartington-Newcastle. That game is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday and will be hosted by Columbus High School. The winner advances to state.
Also in Class D1, Meridian has earned the No. 15 seed and they will face a familiar foe in the district final. They will play second-seeded Johnson-Brock, a team that has beat them in the state championship game the last two years. That match is slated for 6 p.m. on Saturday at Freeman High School with the winner advancing to state.
