House Of Congress Subservient To The White House
Editor: Someone please inform Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that the Senate does not report to the Executive Office, but is a check on its power. McConnell stated he would not bring a budget funding bill to a vote because Trump indicated he would not sign it. The same bill already passed a voice vote in the Senate based on Trump’s indication that he would sign it. But as usual Trump went back on his word after pressure from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. Now McConnell won’t bring it to a vote. That’s not how our government works. Bills in the Senate don’t rise and fall on presidential pre-approval. If there is a bipartisan bill in the Senate then McConnell’s duty is to bring it to the floor for a vote. If it passes, then, if Trump disapproves, he can veto it. That is the way our government works, not how McConnell and the Republicans are perverting our system of government by making a house of Congress subservient to the White House. Thank heaven Democrats took over the House of Representatives. Tom Bubul WEST PITTSTON
