Parents charged after baby found facedown in bathtub
DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — The parents of a 10-month-old girl were arrested after their daughter was found floating facedown in a bathtub, investigators said.
The parents left the girl in a bathtub in their Dothan home with the water running and the drain opened on Dec. 22, Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens told WTVY-TV.
Two other small children in the home threw something into the tub that blocked the drain and the tub filled, Owens said.
The parents did not check on the child regularly and she had likely been face down in the water for several minutes before they found her, Owens said.
Police refused to detail the girl’s injuries, but said she was taken to a hospital in Birmingham.
The parents are charged with aggravated child abuse and the TV station said court records didn’t show if they had a lawyer.
