Prep roundup 10-2-17: Highland, Century earn road wins

HIGHLAND 5, HILLCREST 1

Highland had five different players score in its 5-1 win Monday at Hillcrest.

Cassidee Whitehead, Aubrey Hymas, Savana Spoklie, Mallori Vawdrey and Hallie Austin all scored in the win.

“We finally came out and scored first,” Highland coach Korbie Vaughan said. “That has been a trial of ours. It was nice to see that.”

Highland (8-3-1, 6-1 5A District 5-6) plays Wednesday at Madison to finish the regular season.

CENTURY 4, BONNEVILLE 0

Century earned a 4-0 win Monday at Bonneville to stay unbeaten.

Olivia Holt and Ellie Surmelis scored in the first half, while Emma Edgley and Avery Hall found the back of the net in the second half.

“It was a total clinic,” Century coach Jamshid Roomiany said. “We had beautiful passes. We played magnificent soccer. I really enjoyed it.”

Century (15-0, 9-0 4A District 5-6) closes out the regular season Wednesday at Blackfoot.

BLACKFOOT 7, POCATELLO 2

Blackfoot’s Sierra Sanchez scored three goals in the Broncos’ 7-2 win Monday at Pocatello.

The Broncos’ Alexus Nochebuena scored two goals and teammate Ashley Howe netted one.

“Pocatello plays physical and we had to keep it together,” Blackfoot coach Ramon Sanchez said. “We worked on their defense hard.”

Blackfoot (6-7-1, 4-5 4A District 5-6) hosts Century for its final regular-season game Wednesday. Pocatello (4-8-1, 2-6-1 4A District 5-6) hosts Preston on Wednesday to close the regular season.

HILLCREST 9, HIGHLAND 1

Highland lost 9-1 Monday at Hillcrest. No further information was available.

Highland (5-7-1, 1-5-1 5A District 5-6) closes out its regular season at home Wednesday against Madison.

CENTURY 3, BONNEVILLE 1

Century scored three consecutive goals to beat Bonneville 3-1 Monday at home.

The Bees scored the game’s first goal, but Cole Roske netted three goals for the Diamondbacks to earn the comeback win.

“We played pretty well in the first half,” Century coach Rocky Rhoads said. “We are getting results right now. That is good for the kids.”

Century (8-2-5, 4-1-4 4A District 5-6) hosts Blackfoot on Wednesday to finish the regular season.

BLACKFOOT 6, POCATELLO 0

Blackfoot used an all-around effort to beat Pocatello 6-0 at home Monday.

The Broncos led 4-0 at halftime and had six different players score in the match.

“We won on senior night,” Blackfoot coach Liam Pope said. “That is a big thing.”

Blackfoot (13-0, 9-0 4A District 5-6) plays Wednesday at Century in its final regular-season game. Pocatello (0-12, 0-9 4A District 5-6) plays its final regular-season game Wednesday at Preston.
