Boston’s Cardinal O’Malley to bless special oils
BOSTON (AP) — The head of the Roman Catholic church in the Boston Archdiocese is preparing to celebrate a special Mass in which he will bless the three oils that will be used in church services in the coming year.
Cardinal Sean O’Malley is set to celebrate the annual Chism Mass attended by dozens of priests at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Tuesday morning. Highlights of the Mass held during the Holy Week include priests renewing their commitment to Christ and teaching the Christian faith.
During the special Mass, O’Malley will bless oils used to anoint the sick and those preparing for baptism. He also will bless special oils used to anoint the newly baptized, those receiving confirmation, the hands of the priests and the head of the bishop, and the altar and walls of a church.
