Victims of 1987 building collapse to be remembered
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Relatives of the 28 workers killed in the L’Ambiance Plaza collapse in Bridgeport will be among those gathering for a ceremony on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.
A host of labor union leaders, politicians and survivors of Connecticut’s deadliest construction accident also are expected to attend the remembrance Monday morning at City Hall.
The apartment building was under construction when it collapsed on April 23, 1987. The victims were buried under tons of concrete and steel. Twenty-two other workers were injured, 16 seriously.
Federal authorities blamed faulty lift-slab construction and fined several companies more than $5 million.
