YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after a 2017 home invasion in Yuma turned deadly.

Jesus Andres Gonzalez was sentenced in Yuma County Superior Court nearly a year after being found guilty of the murder of a 20-year-old Leondre Richards.

Prosecutors say the fatal shooting occurred while Gonzalez and four other people committed three home invasions looking for drugs and money.

The Yuma Sun reported that at the conclusion of a five-week trial that ended in March 2020, Gonzalez also was convicted of three counts of burglary, six counts of aggravated assault and one count of kidnapping.
