Angola adding Wyndham
Contractors will break ground today on a Wyndham hotel, a $12 million investment that will be part of a developing innovation park in Angola.
The 11 a.m. groundbreaking for the Wingate by Wyndham hotel will be on the southeast quadrant of the development at Interstate 69 and U.S. 20, a news release from JICI Construction said.
The hotel is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2019. The four-story hotel will include 99 rooms, a lounge, and rooms for meetings, exercise and business work.
“This is going to be a newly unveiled prototype that will be the first in the country with this look,” Ian Garner, a spokesperson for JICI, said through email, without providing details.
Vivian Likes, director of Angola’s Economic Development and Planning Department, said city officials are pleased that the hotel will help anchor the Angola Innovation Park.
“It’s all coming to fruition,” Likes said Monday. “We’re real excited to have Wyndam Hotel as a partner through Angola First Development.”
Officials said last year that Angola First Development owned most of the land where groundbreaking was just a year ago for the innovation park.
Planners want the development to offer more than just commercial, but to include light industrial, possible corporate headquarters, biomedical, research development and education options.
Angola First has invested about 1 million are from the city of Angola, Speedway LLC and the state of Indiana : through its Community Crossings Grant Program, Likes said.
“This has been a real, big collaboration,” Likes said. “This project is just unbelievable. Everybody, I kid you not, in the community and not in the community has been a part of it.”
