Phoenix police say 3 dead after ‘transaction’ goes bad
PHOENIX (AP) — Three people were fatally shot and one critically wounded after two groups of males who met to conduct a “business transaction” in a west Phoenix gas station parking lot early Friday started shooting at each other, authorities said.
Two adult men had met in the parking lot with another adult man and two teenagers just after midnight, Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Williams said. The two groups were talking when something prompted both groups to pull out guns and open fire.
About 20 rounds were fired. One of the men in the first group was killed and the adult and one teen in the second were also fatally wounded, Williams said. The other teenager was critically injured and taken to a hospital.
Police took the uninjured man into custody and were working to piece together what led to the shooting, Williams said.
Williams said it’s not clear what type of transaction the men were conducting but there was no indication drugs were involved. No identities were immediately released.
