FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) on Thursday reported a loss of $1.64 billion in its first quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Fort Worth, Texas-based company said it had a loss of $2.52. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $2.32 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $2.43 per share.
The world’s largest airline posted revenue of $8.9 billion in the period.
American Airlines shares have risen 8.5% since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped slightly more than 4% in the last 12 months.
