WARSAW, Poland (AP) _ A former Miss Poland was stabbed to death in front of her home when a conversation with a man seeking to talk with her turned violent, police said Wednesday.

Agnieszka Kotlarska, 24, a Versace model who held the pageant title in 1991, was stabbed three times in the chest Tuesday by a man who ``claimed he had known her for some time and wanted to talk to her,″ said Stanislaw Stygar, a spokesman for police in the southwestern town of Wroclaw, where the attack took place.

``The conversation ended with the knife stabbing,″ Stygar said.

Her husband tried to protect her and was stabbed in the thigh, Stygar said. His name was not released.

The national newspaper, Zycie Warszawy, reported Kotlarska had narrowly escaped death July 17 when she canceled her booking for the TWA Flight 800, which crashed off Long Island, New York.

She is survived by a 3-year-old child.
