NCAA: UNLV Player Ineligible

November 10, 2000 GMT

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ UNLV junior forward Chris Richardson could miss the season after an NCAA ruling that he misled investigators about the purchase of a used mattress set.

Richardson, who scored 16 points this week in UNLV’s first exhibition game, will not be eligible to play until his case is appealed, school officials said Thursday.

The NCAA sent UNLV a letter Wednesday saying the Committee on Infractions found that Richardson violated NCAA regulations when questioned about the mattress set during an investigation of alleged violations by UNLV.

When questioned in January, Richardson told the NCAA his mother paid $150 to $300 to an assistant coach for the mattress and box springs.

Richardson averaged 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds last season.
