W-B Mayor To Kick Off Re-election Campaign Today

February 20, 2019 GMT

Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tony George will kick off his re-election campaign tonight with an official announcement. The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Cafe at 187 Old River Road in Wilkes-Barre. George’s re-election campaign theme is “Progress as Promised.” “Mayor George’s re-election campaign will focus on continuing his mission to reduce crime, fight blight, and protect neighborhoods through working together with our state and federal legislators,” a campaign press release said. George is seeking a second, four-year term. As of now, the only other announced candidate is former city Councilman George Brown. George defeated Brown in a four-way Democratic primary in 2015 before easily defeating his Republican opponent in the general election. — BOB KALINOWSKI
