Grand Canyon’s WAC tourney run ends with walk-off HR
For the second straight day, the Grand Canyon softball team was defeated by New Mexico State in extra innings at the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Both times it came courtesy of a walk-off home run from the Aggies’ Kelsey Horton.
After defeating CSU Bakersfield 6-4 in an elimination game earlier in the day, the Antelopes lost 6-4 in nine innings to New Mexico State Friday night and were eliminated from the WAC tournament.
The Aggies bumped GCU to the losers’ bracket on Thursday with a 1-0 win in eight innings.
In their win over the Roadrunners on Friday, the Antelopes used a six-run third inning to blow past CSUB.
The Roadrunners plated two in the sixth to cut the lead to two but GCU was able to hold off any further damage and claim the win.
Against New Mexico State, the Antelopes took a 4-3 lead courtesy of an Aggie error in the fifth.
But, NMSU scored in the sixth to even the score before Horton delivered the game-winning home run.
