Spinners in a Funk
NORWICH, Conn. -- Their chances of making the New York-Penn League playoffs are slipping away.
The Lowell Spinners (33-35) dropped their seventh straight game Monday with a 6-1 loss to the Connecticut Tigers.
Starting pitcher Jose Gonzalez delivered five innings but a three-run third inning put the Spinners in a hole. He also struck out three, walked four and surrendered four hits.
Lowell got on the board in the top of the seventh after Grant Williams brought in Elih Marrero, making his Spinners debut, with a bases-loaded single to make it 3-1.
The Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Danny Bethea to push the lead to 6-1, ultimately securing the win for Connecticut.
With their seventh straight loss, the Spinners finish the series on Tuesday with Chris Machamer taking the mound for Lowell.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
