Name released for Eagle Mountain teen killed in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park accident
State Park officials released the name of the teenage boy who died Thursday in an accident at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.
Colton R. Hansen, a 13-year-old from Eagle Mountain, was riding his four-wheeler with friends and family at the time of the accident. Colton went over a dune about 5 p.m. Thursday, and tumbled down the other side multiple times, sustaining fatal injuries.
According to a blog post from the Utah State Parks, Colton was wearing a helmet, had the appropriate flag attached to his machine at the time of the accident. He had also completed the required Off-Highway Vehicle Youth Education course.
Family members transported him from the scene of the accident to the park’s visitor center where they met medical personnel, state park rangers, and a Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Kane County medical personnel performed CPR and Classic Air Medical was dispatched and landed at the scene. However, the boy was pronounced dead by medical personnel by the time helicopter had landed.
The blog post said Utah State Parks officials are not aware of any fundraising or GoFundMe efforts through the family.
“Our thoughts are with the friends and family of those involved in this tragedy. Colton Hansen was wearing the appropriate safety gear and had taken the appropriate training. We believe this to be a tragic accident, and ask that everyone remember to take appropriate safety measures throughout this riding season,” the post concluded.
