Aiken man charged in violent assault involving guns Sunday in Windsor
An Aiken County man was charged Sunday following a shooting incident at his Wren Road residence in Windsor, which involved his 49-year-old roommate.
Phillip Lee Kinard Jr., 29, is charged with armed robbery, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to jail records.
Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 400 block of Wren Road around 4:50 p.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting reported inside the residence.
Investigators spoke with the victim’s wife, who witnessed the incident. She claimed the suspect entered the residence, was “very irate” and started “pistol-whipping” the victim with a handgun.
Deputies reported lacerations on the victim’s head, which were bleeding when they arrived to the scene.
The victim claimed the suspect came inside, hit him with a gun, and they began to fight. However, once the first fight ended, the victim said he went to retrieve his rifle, which caused the two men to start fighting for second time.
Investigators then spoke directly with Kinard, who claimed he arrived at the residence and found his room ransacked, causing him to become “extremely angry,” police reported.
Kinard claimed he was yelling at the victim, who he claims retrieved his rifle first; he said they began to fight over the rifle and, at this time, he got his handgun out and struck the victim with it.
Following an investigation, which included testimony from several witnesses at the scene, Kinard was arrested and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he continues to be held Tuesday afternoon.
