St. Louis man sentenced in woman’s death during police chase

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis man was sentenced to eight years in prison for a traffic crash that killed a St. Louis County woman while he was fleeing from police.

Danny Harris, 25, was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a crash, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Police said Harris was speeding on July 24, 2019, when he went through a stop sign and collided with a car carrying Reniece Randle, 37, who died at the scene.

Police said the chase began after a SWAT officer saw Harris involved in a drug deal. The officer said he stopped the chase and a second officer also pulled back because of Harris’ “dangerous rate of speed.”

Police eventually caught Harris hiding in a bush.

A pending civil lawsuit against St. Louis alleges the officers broke department policies by chasing Harris.
