Police respond to report of early morning shooting in Hiram
HIRAM, Maine (AP) — Law enforcement authorities in Maine are investigating the shooting death of a man in Hiram early Saturday morning.
Police responded to a home in town at about 1 a.m. for a report of a man who had been shot and who required medical help, according to an emailed statement from state police spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Responding officers found the man outdoors on the property and attempted to help him, but he was already dead.
His name was not made public.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team were called to the scene.
Detectives are currently speaking to witnesses and other persons of interest in the case, the statement said.
An autopsy on the man is expected within the next few days.
State police said there is no ongoing public safety threat.
