Zocca Cuisine D’Italia voted best River Walk dining
If a trip to Italy isn’t in the offing, Zocca Cuisine D’Italia makes for a popular substitute.
The contemporary restaurant, located in the lower level of the Westin Riverwalk Hotel, has all the features of an authentic Italian dining experience. And this year, it was selected as the Readers’ Choice for River Walk Dining.
“It’s a big honor, especially to be chosen by the readers,” general manager Naren Naidoo said. “We are amazed.”
The restaurant, named after a rustic village in northern Italy, is known for its signature dishes, such as pappardelle with a Parmesan lemon cream sauce and spaghetti with tender meatballs the size of a softball.
Executive chef Jeff Foresman also offers authentic Italian pizza, a variety of salads and a certified gluten-free menu. Among the breakfast menu items are omelets, cinnamon swirl French toast and smoked salmon on a toasted bagel.
While regulars will recognize many dishes on the menu, they may be surprised by a recent major renovation.
The dining room’s massive wall, which had displayed the eatery’s wine selections, now features colorful hand-blown glass works by Garcia Art Glass of San Antonio. (Don’t worry — there’s obviously still an expansive wine list.) The dining room also added 200-year-old wood flooring from Vermont.
“We have great service and excellent food in a fun and comfortable environment,” Foresman said. “We’re not stuffy. We want people to feel like they are at home.”
