Mass. man resentenced in Ohio Brink’s burglary

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A Massachusetts man who prosecutors said was the ringleader behind a Brink’s burglary in Ohio has been resentenced to 13 years in prison.

Sean Murphy, of Lynn, Mass., was originally sentenced to 20 years in prison last year. He’d been convicted for his role in a burglary at a Columbus Brink’s armored car warehouse in 2009 where thieves cut a hole in the roof and stole $2.3 million.

A jury had found the 48-year-old Murphy guilty of charges including racketeering and conspiracy to defraud the U.S., but a federal appeals court dismissed the two racketeering charges in March and ordered Murphy to be resentenced Wednesday by federal judge George Smith.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1cqiYmV) that Murphy’s attorney argued for a 10-year sentence because Murphy cooperated with authorities.
