FORMER TRUMP CASINO IN ATLANTIC CITY TO BE BLOWN UP
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Imagine — if you have a beef with President Donald Trump — and have deep enough pockets — you can help blow up a building he used to own. Officials in Atlantic City, New Jersey are about to demolish the former Trump Plaza casino. And the right to press the button to bring the building down is being auctioned off. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small says he hopes the auction will raise more than $1 million. Small says he’s irked that Trump has mocked the city he once invested in, saying he made “a lot of money and then got out.” The former Trump Plaza casino will be blown up on Jan. 29.
PYTHON-HUNTING DOG FINDS SUCCESS IN FLORIDA
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — That dog WILL hunt. And that’s turning out to be a boost to officials in Florida trying to keep pythons at bay. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is boasting of the success of Truman, a black Labrador retriever trained to sniff out pythons. Wildlife officials trained him and another dog to detect a python’s scent and alert their handlers when they do. Last week, Truman became the first to pass the literal smell test when he spotted an 8-foot Burmese python in Miami-Dade County. It’s estimated there are between 100,000 and 300,000 pythons in Florida. Pythons pose a threat to the Everglades because they eat native mammals and birds, throwing off the predator-prey balance of the vast ecosystem.
