Each May 4 (today in 2019) is designated as Star Wars Day. It relates to a famous quote from the hugely popular science fiction series blockbuster: “May the Force (Fourth) be with you.”
Orson was almost Darth
Star Wars director George Lucas originally wanted another famed film director, Orson Welles, as the voice of series villain Darth Vader. But Lucas dropped the idea when he thought Welles’ famous baritone would be too recognizable. James Earl Jones was then tabbed as the voice of Vader.
Yoda had first name at first
In early drafts of the screenplay, the character Yoda actually was named “Buffy,” which was completely changed in subsequent drafts to the full name “Minch Yoda,” and then shortened to just Yoda.
Original movie a big moneymaker
“Star Wars,” released in 1977 and the first film in the lengthy series, is the No. 2 highest-grossing movie of all-time according to figures adjusted for inflation. Which film is No. 1? “Gone With the Wind.”
Chewbacca actor passes
Peter Mayhew, the 7-foot-2-inch actor who played Chewbacca, died this week at age 74.
