SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Monday night in the weekend shooting death of a pregnant woman who gave birth minutes before she died.

Kenneth Charles Hodges, 44, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. at a Murray residence and was being booked for investigation of first-degree murder in Friday night’s slaying of Anna Holmes, 31, of West Valley City, Salt Lake County Sheriff Pete Hayward said.

The woman was shot in the head at a Kearns video store during a robbery and died minutes after giving birth by Caesarean section to a fourth daughter.

Authorities received an anonymous tip Sunday night regarding Hodges’ whereabouts, Hayward said. Hundreds of calls had been received in the case.

″We’re always waiting for the one that rings the bell. This was one of them,″ he said.

Hodges also is wanted in Eureka, Calif., for property crimes, and has a long list of arrests in Salt Lake County, Hayward said.

A second man authorities have said might have driven the car away from the store had not been located, but Hayward said authorities had some leads on his whereabouts.

The woman, eight months pregnant, was shot in the Voyager Video store as her three daughters and three neighbor children watched.

After getting between $300 to $350 from the clerk and stuffing the cash in in a green canvas bag, the gunman grabbed her, placed his handgun against her head and shot her, authorities said.

Just before the woman died, the baby girl was delivered at University of Utah Health Sciences Center. The infant was in serious but stable condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
