Fulfer wins GOP nod for Arkansas Senate special election

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — A Springdale city official and former councilman has won the Republican nomination in a special election for a northwest Arkansas state Senate seat.

Colby Fulfer defeated retired U.S. Navy Capt. Steve Unger Tuesday in the primary runoff for the state Senate District 7 seat. Fulfer will face Democrat Lisa Parks, an attorney, in the Feb 8 special election for the seat.

The seat had been held by former Sen. Lance Eads, a Republican who stepped down in October to take a job with a lobbying firm.

Fulfer was elected to the Springdale City Council in 2016 and served until 2020, and is the city’s chief of staff.

“19 Kids and Counting” father Jim Bob Duggar had run for the seat, but failed the make the runoff in a December primary.
