3 NYC Theaters adding hearing-impaired equipment
NEW YORK (AP) — Three off-Broadway theater companies have agreed to become more accessible to the hearing-impaired.
The Manhattan Theatre Club, the Atlantic Theater Company and the School of Visual Arts Theatre have agreed to provide wireless headsets and install “hearing loops” that transmit audio signals to certain hearings aids.
The New York Post (http://bit.ly/1j1tJTR ) reports the agreement was reached in a deal with state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
The School of Visual Arts Theatre and the Manhattan Theatre Club each will also offer 24 free seats this year to charities serving the disabled. The SVA hosts the annual Tribeca Film Festival.
The AG investigated the theaters following complaints they were not accommodating patrons with hearing loss in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The theaters didn’t returns requests for comment.
