Whether you stream, buy or rent, here’s a look at what’s new or notable in home video. Movies are available on streaming sites such as iTunes, Amazon and Vudu unless otherwise noted.

Rent it now

“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”: On the cosmic level, the “Lego Movie” sequel is about an adolescent boy who doesn’t want to play with his sister. The consequences for Emmet, Lucy and their little friends are dystopia, interplanetary war and a deep suspicion of pop music. It’s a young adult movie, in other words. More jokes would have been awesome.

In theaters

“Room for Rent”: Lin Shaye is a familiar face in horror movies, from “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Critters” to the “Insidious” franchise. (She also was a scene-stealer in the Farrelly brothers’ biggest hits.) Now she carries a scary movie as a destitute widow forced to take in borders who becomes overly attached to a young man living in her home.

“Jailbirds”: Romance, contraband, revenge and brawls in the dining room. At first glance, it might look like a new season of “Orange Is the New Black” has arrived. But “Jailbirds” is the real thing, a documentary that focuses on female inmates of the Sacramento County Jail. Fans of the women of Litchfield Penitentiary may want to tune in anyway for impossible to make up lines like: “I talk to a guy — I met him through the toilet.” (Series premieres Friday on Netflix)
