Charlie Puth: Pop star gets personal on ‘Voicenotes Tour’

“One Call Away” singer-songwriter Charlie Puth is bringing his “Voicenotes Tour “ to Mohegan Sun Arena. The multiplatinum star will perform Thursday, July 19, with special guest Hailee Steinfeld.

The show comes just three days after his July 16 gig at Radio City Music Hall. “Marvin Gaye” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore” are among Puth’s earlier hits. An international sensation, he’s headed to play across Asia this fall.

Puth is touring in support of his new album, “Voicenotes,” which dropped in May. It features such tunes as “The Way I Am,” “Attention” and “How Long.” His “How Long” video has already been viewed by nearly 400 million people.

According to Puth, fame can affect people in both good and bad ways; it’s a sentiment he expresses on “Voicenotes.” Puth shares a bit about his struggle to find a normal relationship when his life has been anything but normal these past few years.

“Whenever I met anybody, they often knew more about me than I knew about myself. I’d never dealt with anything like that before,” he said, in a news release about his latest music.

Puth named the album “Voicenotes” after the iPhone app he uses to collect his musical ideas. The piano-playing crooner co-wrote every tune and recorded the whole thing himself, except for one song he co-produced with Max Martin.

A native of New Jersey, Puth began studying jazz when he was 10. His breakout smash, “See You Again,” was the best-selling song of 2015, worldwide, and earned him three Grammy nominations. He has written for numerous artists, from Thomas Rhett and Jason Derulo to Maroon 5.

Steinfeld is known for such hits as “Love Myself” and the summer anthem, “Most Girls,” along with “Let Me Go.” The latter pairs her with one of country music’s best-selling acts, Florida Georgia Line.
