Trump rebooting ‘Rosanne’ reboot: Darcy cartoon

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Roseanne Barr’s latest racist tweet, comparing Valerie Jarrett to an ape, and ABC canceling ‘Rosanne’ because of it, were both ‘no brainer’ decisions.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” wrote Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment.

CEO of Disney, ABC’s parent, Robert Iger added, “There was only one thing to do there, and that was the right thing.”

ABC faced a likely advertiser boycott of the hit show, and problems with other ABC stars if it failed to respond in an appropriate manner.

Disney/ABC’s decision to do “the right thing, ” was a refreshing and commendable display of corporate responsibility.

But did ABC do ‘the wrong thing’ by rebooting ‘Roseanne’ to begin with?

On script paper, bringing back a sitcom about a struggling working-class family made sense in the Trump era.

On Rosanne Barr’s twitter feed, bringing back a sitcom starring a loose cannon known for firing off racist tweets, crazy conspiracy theories and grabbing her crotch and spitting while butchering the National Anthem, made no sense.

Barr initially apologized for her Jarrett tweet, dismissing it as just a stupid mistake and lapse in judgment made under the influence of Ambien.

As the makers of Ambien pointed out, racism is not a side affect of their sleeping pills.   And Barr has made “stupid mistakes” like comparing African-American’s to apes, over and over and over again.

In 2013, Barr tweeted that, “susan rice is a man with big swinging ape ****”

In retweets, Barr supports a conspiracy theory that the world is controlled by a deep state cabal of Democrats, celebrities, and intelligence agency officials, many of who are pedophiles, that Trump has secretly been going after, worldwide.

Barr also supported the story that the Hillary Clinton campaign was running a child sex ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor.

In 1990, at a Cincinnati Red’s game, Barr, who would become the Queen of Trump TV,  purposely sang the National Anthem out of key while grabbing her crotch and spitting.  But according to Trump, NFL players, who kneel with heads bowed and hands over their hearts, during the National Anthem, are “Sons of *****”

Ironically, Roseanne’s tweets were out of character with her rebooted show.   ‘Roseanne’ the show promoted tolerance that was absent in her racist and bigoted tweets.

Trump supporter Barr ended up putting an estimated 300 people employed on her show out of work by spewing her racist hate for the Obama administration.  Most of those 300 are not making star salaries.  They are behind the scenes production staffers.

After hyping the show to Trump supporters as being “about us”, the billionaire,con-man, developer, brander, reality TV star turned president, made the cancellation about himself, complaining that Bob Iger never called him.

“Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that “ABC does not tolerate comments like those” made by Rosanne Barr.  Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC.  Maybe I just didn’t get the call?”

Not surprising Trump is too tone deaf to realize comparing African-Americans to apes is not the same as Jimmy Kimmel comparing spray tan-loving Trump to an orange cheeto.

“Maybe I didn’t get the call” Trump tweeted.  Yes, maybe he was too busy not apologizing to Megyn Kelly, or the Mexicans he smeared as rapists, murderers and animals, or the Obama’s for ’birtherism,” along with all the others who’ve been subjected to his vulgar attacks.

ABC doing “the right thing” by canceling ‘Roseanne’ raises the question of why NBC didn’t do ‘the right thing by removing Trump from ‘The Apprentice’ when he was pushing his racist ‘birtherism’ claims against President Obama?

If Trump was a female sitcom star, he would look and act just like Rosanne Barr, just taller and more orange,  so don’t be surprised if he reboots Roseanne as his next Communications Director.
