Sylvester Stallone didn’t wear shirt with political message
CLAIM: A photo shows actor Sylvester Stallone wearing a shirt that says “There are 4 useless things in this world: a woke person, covid vaccine, Anthony Fauci & Joe Biden.”
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Stallone was not pictured wearing a shirt with this phrase. An old image of the actor was manipulated to add the words onto his plain black shirt.
THE FACTS: Social media users on Thursday shared an edited image of Stallone to claim he wore a T-shirt with a political message meant to criticize being “woke,” as well as COVID-19 vaccines, President Biden and Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert.
One Twitter user shared the manipulated image with the caption: “I knew I loved this guy for a reason, one of the few I am not disappointed in.” The post garnered more than 1,000 likes and was shared more than 300 times as of Thursday afternoon.
However, the image was manipulated to add the text onto Stallone’s shirt.
The original image, taken of Stallone walking down a Los Angeles street in 2018, is archived on the stock photo website Shutterstock and shows the “Rocky” actor wearing a plain back shirt without any writing. The image is otherwise identical, showing the same surroundings, including a traffic light and passersby in the background.
A publicist for Stallone did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A similar digitally altered image of actor Ryan Reynolds has previously been shared to falsely claim he wore a shirt with a political message.
