East Idaho fire causes $90,000 in damage
A fire early Sunday caused an estimated $90,000 in damage when it burned a garage and its contents, according to a news release from the city of Idaho Falls. A family was displaced, but no one was hurt.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department, which received the call at 1:09 a.m., was dispatched to 1980 Everest for a report of a fire in an attached garage of a single-story private home.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from the garage, with significant fire exposure to the house next door. Firefighters searched the homes and the garage and determined that everyone was out.
A boy was upstairs in his room awake when he smelled smoke coming from the garage. The residents were able to get out before first responders arrived.
Although the garage and contents were a total loss, crews were able to keep the fire contained to the garage. And they were able to keep it from extending into the house with the garage and exposed house next door.
While one family was displaced, residents in the neighboring home were not displaced.
A total of 17 first responders were sent to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
