FRANKFORT, Ind. (AP) — Two young sisters have died after their central Indiana home caught fire.

Firefighters responded about 2:30 a.m. Friday to the blaze near Frankfort, northwest of Indianapolis.

They found the girls, ages 12 and 5, inside. Their parents and an infant were able to escape the home, the Clinton County sheriff’s office said in a release.

Rossville Fire Chief Aron Fife said the family and a sheriff’s deputy attempted to go inside the house while it was burning to save the two girls, according to WXIN-TV.

”They did make an attempt to get back in and get them out but they were unsuccessful,” he said.

Autopsies were expected to be performed Saturday.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office was investigating the cause of the fire, Fife said.
