Conservation officers receive medals of valor
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Two Mississippi officers have received high honors for saving the lives of residents.
Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Conservation Officers Pvt. Brian Tallent and Lt. Jason Redden have each received a medal of valor from the state.
Tallent was commended for rescuing a woman from Holly Springs National Forest on July 20, 2020. She had been severely cut and burned and was a passenger in an SUV that Tallent stopped for suspicious behavior. The driver was later charged with attempted murder, and the victim survived after being air-lifted to a nearby hospital.
Redden rescued a man and his two pets from a house fire on Dec. 16, 2020. He was the first on scene and kicked down the door to get inside.
