Homes threatened by Coulee Hite wildfire
A wildfire near Coulee Hite Road in west Spokane County is threatening several homes.
The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and is estimated to be between four and seven acres, said Cameron Stewart, an operations coordinator for the Washington Department of Natural Resources.
The fire was burning in steep, rugged terrain and threatening structures, Stewart said. Satellite images of the area show several homes in the area.
The fire was reported in the 14700 block of West Coulee Hite Road.
Multiple ground fire crews, as well as two Fire Bosses - airplanes that scoop water out of lakes to fight fires - were responding, Stewart said. A helicopter was also working to put out the fire.
The location is about six miles east of the start point for a 2015 fire that burned about 270 acres along Coulee Hite Road. Firefighters quickly brought that blaze under control after homes in the area were evacuated.
