Wilkes-Barre Woman Burned In Fire Dies Of Injuries
WILKES-BARRE — A woman who was severely injured in a house fire earlier this month has died from her injuries, according to the Lehigh Valley Coroner’s Office.
Clora Sylvester, 70, was pronounced dead at 9:54 p.m. Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, officials said. The coroner ruled her death the result of complications of third-degree burns sustained in the fire, and the manner was ruled accidental.
Sylvester was critically injured in the fire that broke out at her home at 174 Kidder St. at 3:24 p.m. Jan. 2.
The only occupant of the building at the time of the fire, Sylvester escaped before firefighters arrived and was taken to the trauma center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. prior to being transferred to Lehigh County.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the living room on the first floor of the structure.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by a space heater being positioned too close to a chair.
The property, which sustained smoke damage, was condemned until repairs work is completed.
