Gladys H. Sternat, 94, Mayville, passed away peacefully at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville with the Rev. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will take place Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will follow. Private family entombment will take place at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
Gladys was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Mayville, the daughter of Alvin and Leona (Manthey) Lehner. She was united in marriage to Rudolph R. Sternat Jr. Nov. 1 1944, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. Gladys retired from West Bend Company after 33 years of service. Together with her husband Rudy they owned and operated Sternat’s Bar and Restaurant in LeRoy for 15 years. After retirement she relocated to West Bend, and then spent many years in Tucson, Arizona, returning home to Mayville in 2009. She was an amazing woman who loved bingo, cards, dancing, camping, travel, cooking, baking and volunteering. She was always willing to help others with her loving and caring ways. Gladys enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed by many.
She is survived by her sons Harvey (Janet) Sternat of Bayfield, and Brian (Diane) Sternat of Beaver Dam; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Sternat of Mayville; son-in-law Larry Garman of Manchester, Tennessee; grandchildren Amy (Dave) Jessen, Lisa Sternat, Stephanie (Jason) Martinez, Christopher (Michelle) Garman, Christa (fiancé Dustin) Garman, Tamara (Paul) Rhodes; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rudy; daughter Denise; son, Ron; her sisters Caroline, Lucille, Bonita, and Jeanette; her brothers Harold, Victor, Norbert, and Gilbert; and her special friend John Jackson.
