Stuttgart backs coach despite 8-game losing run
STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Stuttgart is sticking with its coach for one more game at least despite a dismal run that has seen the side plunge toward Bundesliga relegation.
Stuttgart president Bernd Wahler says the club’s board of management decided Tuesday that Thomas Schneider will remain in charge for Saturday’s clash with bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig.
Wahler says “the advisory committee is 100 percent behind this decision. We took the necessary time after the emotional (2-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday) to calmly analyze the situation and discuss the issues.”
Stuttgart has lost eight games in a row under the 41-year-old Schneider, and only goal difference separates the club from Hamburger SV and Freiburg in the relegation zone.
After Braunschweig, Stuttgart faces more relegation six-pointers against fellow candidates Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Nuremberg.
