Erving man charged in connection with pursuit

April 8, 2013 GMT

ERVING, Mass. (AP) — Police say an Erving teenager is facing charges for allegedly leading officers on a high-speed chase through three communities.

Police say the pursuit of 18-year-old Carl Engstrom on Saturday afternoon started in Erving and went through Montague, and back to Erving, before ending in Northfield, where he and a passenger ditched their pickup truck and fled into the woods.

Engstrom is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Orange District Court on charges including speeding, failure to stop for police, and reckless operation. The 18-year-old old woman passenger was not charged. Police tell The Recorder of Greenfield (http://bit.ly/ZJc1pM) that he drove double the speed limit in some areas.

Police called off the pursuit at one point because they knew who was driving and did not want to put the public in danger.
