GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police in Greenfield are investigating after someone stole almost 30 residential mailboxes then tossed them off an overpass onto Interstate 91.

Officers responded to the overpass at about 4 a.m. Monday after getting a report that some kids were tossing rocks off the overpass onto the highway below.

The kids were gone by the time police arrived but 29 damaged mailboxes were recovered. It appears as though some had been flattened by vehicles, but police did not receive reports of accidents or injuries.

The mailboxes had been stolen from neighborhoods in Greenfield and Deerfield.

Residents who had their mailboxes stolen were told to go their respective departments to pick them up. There was no word on arrests.
