HAYS, Kan. (AP) — A man from central Kansas has died in a head-on crash near Hays, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

The patrol said the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 183 south of Hays, killing James Kohl, 56, of Schoenchen. Investigators said Kohl was driving a car northbound on the highway when a southbound pickup truck entered his lane while trying to pass a vehicle.

Kohl died at the scene, officials said. The driver of the truck — a 20-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri — suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
