March 6, 2017 GMT

Joseph LaBate’s goal with 40.1 seconds left in the second period gave the Utica Comets a 2-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Sunday at the Aud in Utica, N.Y.

The Sound Tigers lost their second in a row to close a three-game road trip against teams from the AHL’s North Division, opening the door for Hershey to draw even in the race for fourth place in the Atlantic Division. The Bears played Sunday afternoon at home against Springfield.

Ryan Pulock’s goal midway through the second tied it at 1 for Bridgeport. He has a seven-game scoring streak with nine points in the run.

LaBate scored on the rush, crossing the blue line, getting around one defender and wristing a shot from the high slot past Jaroslav Halak’s glove.

LaBate had an assist on the Comets’ first goal, 11:41 into the game, driving to the net as Carter Bancks scored off the left post.;;
