Former Governor Edwin Edwards undergoing tests in Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards is hospitalized in north Louisiana for non-COVID-related issues, according to a statement from his family released Saturday.
Edwards’ wife, Trina, said her husband is back in Shreveport for a check-up at Ochsner LSU Health Medical Center where he was tested two years ago for respiratory and heart issues. Edwards had heart bypass surgery 24 years ago and annually develops pneumonia, the family said.
Trina Edwards also said doctors have tested her husband for the coronavirus for the third time this month and each test has come back negative.
“The 93-year-old former governor, congressman, and U.S. Navy pilot said he’s feeling fine,” the family statement said.
Edwards served Louisiana as governor for four terms.
