Project Ed Bear gala to honor 30 children battling cancer

AKRON, Ohio – Project Ed Bear, a nonprofit organization that aims to comfort local children fighting cancer, has scheduled its 24th annual gala auction at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26 at Quaker Station.

The Peter Pan-themed event will give more than 30 Outstanding Bravery Awards to children fighting cancer. Children also will get to walk the red carpet while event guests cheer them on.

“At the Project Ed Bear Gala Auction, our kids get standing ovations, receive gifts donated by generous sponsors and volunteers, and are celebrated for their bravery and kindness — not their cancer,” said Project Ed Bear founder Susan Summerville in a news release.

The silent auction will feature a guitar autographed by Paul McCartney and a ride on the Goodyear blimp for two, among other prizes.

Tickets are $50 and proceeds benefit Project Ed Bear’s programs such as Camp Ed Bear, the Project Ed Bear College Scholarship Program and Liv Thru Art.
