UML Tie May Be Costly
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The UMass Lowell hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Vermont in its Hockey East regular season finale Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
The No. 16 River Hawks are 18-11-5 overall and 12-7-5 in HE and must await Saturday’s BU-Maine game to determine home ice for the first round of the playoffs. A BU tie or loss would give the River Hawks the No. 4 seed and home ice in the best-of-3 quarterfinal round. With a BU win the teams will play in Boston.
Senior forward Nick Master scored his fifth goal of the season for the River Hawks and senior forward Ryan Dmowski had his 12th of the year.
Junior goaltender Tyler Wall stopped 25 shots in his 20th start of the season for the River Hawks. UVM’s Stefanos Lekkas recorded 28 saves on the night, 11 in the first period.
UMass Lowell, which did not score an overtime goal all season, had plenty of chances in the extra five-minute session but were unable to convert, leaving their fate in the paws of the Terriers.
