FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A 21-year-old pregnant woman died after she was shot while riding on the back of a motorcycle on a central California freeway, authorities said.

Savanna Troyn fell off the bike and was run over by at least one vehicle after the shooting early Saturday on State Route 41 south of Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP is investigating the case as a homicide, but as of Monday no information had been released on a possible suspect or motive, the Fresno Bee reported.

Troyn’s father, James Castro, told the Bee that his daughter was 2 1/2 months pregnant with her first child. She was scheduled to enter a drug treatment program on Monday, he said.

“Savanna, she was a firecracker. She could be a knucklehead. She had to do it her way,” Castro said. “She was looking forward to being a mother.”

The man driving the motorcycle remained at the scene and was questioned by officers.

A vehicle that struck the woman also stayed and the driver was cooperating with the investigation, police said.
