Firefighters put out Honolulu fishing boat fire; no injuries
HONOLULU (AP) — Firefighters in Honolulu have extinguished a fire after black smoke was seen coming from a docked 35-foot (about 11 meter) fishing boat.
Five crew members and the captain were aboard the vessel when the fire was reported.
Six firefighting units with 23 personnel responded to the fire and no injuries were reported.
“The fire attack continued and focused on the wheelhouse and engine room area to ensure the fire did not spread to any onboard auxiliary fuel supply sources,” the Honolulu Fire Department said.
Four more units with 16 Honolulu Fire Department members were called to assist and a U.S. Coast Guard boat also arrived to support the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The boat was moored to a dock at Pier 18.
